Parent Tips for Supporting Early Reading Skills

Phonological Awareness is a fancy word for a child’s ability to play with sounds and words.  As a parent there are many things you can do to help your child develop their language skills.

These don’t have to be boring ‘homework’ activities.  Rather they can be fun, entertaining games you play as you drive to the store, walk along the street, or prepare supper.

These tips are designed to show you a few tricks and strategies you can use during regular daily activities, that will strengthen early language skills.

We hope you find this information helpful.

As we progress through this series of activities you will notice we are moving from the Big parts of language to the smaller parts.
Everything we are talking about here is based on ORAL Language.
It is all about listening and speaking. Playing with words, and sounds.
Although we are presenting these in order, your child doesn’t have to master the first skill before moving on to the second. You can mix it up and have fun!
